What is the in thing? What is the latest trend? Ho do I make my home more modern?
These are some of the most common questions I hear from clients. 9 times out of 10 I respond with the simple question “What do you like”? That is the starting point. That is where the exploration into your project can begin. Colors that are trending are doing exactly that…. trending. What is popular now may not be in 3 years. Having your house painted is an investment and the finished product should be something you enjoy daily. It is so wonderful when it reflects you. Every space is different. If there are espresso floors, granite and stainless-steel gray walls or white would be great! That works really well! This is a very popular look that many people are looking for. It embraces a calm, clean fresh modern look. If you have a 150 year house with golden honey oak floors, big moldings and lots character. It may call for a completely different color scheme. Trying to make that space modern is difficult but not impossible.
Mixing old with new can be incredibly successful. I always suggested that people embrace what they have and work with it, not against it. Highlight what is beautiful and add what is more contemporary. If you don’t like the wood work, it can be changed but that can get expensive. Flooring can be changed as well. It all depends on your budget and taste. Below is an example of mixing old with new. I feel it was a very successful project and my clients personal input made it really work.
I don’t think that there is one formula that works for everyone. We are all different and like different things. The important thing is to create the feel and atmosphere you desire. Bold, calm, neutral, eclectic, Serene, fun……It goes on and on. Color and the use of paint is an amazing tool and it can completely transform a space.
My advice is always…” what do you like”? If you haven’t got a clue what you like or are overwhelmed with liking too many things that is where I can help!
I find the transformation of a space so exciting! If you like the trends go for it. If you don’t, don’t.
